Self-Guided Holidays

Your Adventure, Your Pace.

If you love the idea of exploring Slovakia’s mountains but prefer the freedom to move at your own rhythm, our self-guided walking holidays are the perfect fit. You’ll enjoy the independence of travelling solo (or with your own group), with the reassurance of having everything planned for you — routes, accommodation, logistics, and support.

These trips are designed for travellers who enjoy flexibility, like choosing when to start the day, how long to linger at a viewpoint, or whether to take the scenic detour. And with our local knowledge behind you, you’ll always feel confident navigating the trails.

We’ve created a small collection of carefully designed itineraries, each offering a different style of walking and a different corner of Slovakia to explore.
Every package includes:

– Pre-booked accommodation
– Tailored walking routes for each day
– GPX files and detailed route notes
– Local recommendations
– Optional add-ons like airport transfers or extra activities

They’re crafted to make independent walking easy, enjoyable, and worry-free — so all you need to think about is the scenery.

What navigation support do you provide?

For every self-guided holiday you book with us, you will receive a comprehensive digital route pack well before departure. This includes: Detailed turn-by-turn trail descriptions, suggested daily timing and distances, safety notes and tips for each route, app recommendations to use for routes.

We can also provide GPX files if needed.

Do I need a paper map or guidebook?

It’s entirely optional. All our route packs include digital maps and descriptions that are sufficient for most walkers, but if you prefer a paper map, you’re welcome to bring or buy one locally in one of the gift shops.

What kind of footwear should I wear for hiking?

We strongly recommend wearing proper hiking boots that cover your ankles. The terrain in the High Tatras is often rocky and uneven, so sturdy boots with good ankle support are essential.

What should I pack for the trip?

You should pack for variable mountain conditions. Pack for variable mountain conditions. Key items include: sturdy hiking boots, moisture-wicking layers (t-shirts, fleece, jacket), a waterproof/windproof rain jacket, and comfortable hiking trousers. Always carry a rain jacket or poncho in your daypack – weather in the High Tatras is very unpredictable, and sudden showers or temperature changes can occur even on a clear day. Other essentials are a medium-sized backpack, water bottle, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and any personal medications. Trekking poles can be helpful on steep or uneven sections (optional). Don’t worry if you forget something – there are shops in town, and we’ll send you a full detailed kit list about two months before departure as part of your itinerary package.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is absolutely essential and highly recommended. Your policy should cover hiking activities, medical expenses, and mountain rescue. We provide a recommended travel insurance option for you here.

What level of fitness is required?

This depends on the type of walking holiday you choose. We offer Easy to Moderate and Moderate itineraries. For the easier trips, you should be in reasonably good shape: expect hikes of up to around 4-6 hours a day (with plenty of breaks and a longer stop for lunch). For the more challenging itineraries, a higher fitness level is needed. Our hardest hikes can involve 8–9 hours of walking in a day, with steep ascents up to around 1,200 m elevation gain and boulder terrain all the way. You’ll need to be sure-footed and comfortable with heights on those routes. In general, if you lead an active lifestyle and can walk for several hours at a stretch (with breaks), you should do fine on our trips. If you’re unsure, feel free to ask us about which tour best matches your fitness level. We have options for beginners through to very experienced hikers.

Is the tap water drinkable in Slovakia?

What is included in the holiday price?

Inclusions such as accommodation, breakfasts, comprehensive self-guided document, rail card, mountain rescue coverage are listed in the trip description on our website above.

Are flights included?

No. Flights are not included. Each traveller is responsible for booking those themselves.

What happens if I get lost or need help?
